Jeremy vanBeek was born in Bellingham, Washington, located on a quiet bay of the Puget Sound. Bellingham is a town alive with tall graceful fir and cedar trees, as well as a host of immensely talented artisans. The beauty of this place inspired Jeremy to develop a philosophy about how we interact with art and nature, and planted seeds that would later bring to fruition, Liontree Woodworking.
Jeremy was surrounded by art from birth, with credit to his father Randy vanBeek an accomplished Painter, and mother Marlene vanBeek who specializes in fine beadwork. The arts inspired him though his formative years and he showed exceptional talent with his hands and a progressing fervor to create.
Beginning to create furniture pieces Jeremy sought instruction in the craft. Approaching The Cascade Joinery for an apprenticeship, they saw his eagerness and desire to learn and agreed to take him on as the youngest person they had ever hired. It was here that he experienced a romantic introduction to woodworking, using both modern tools as well as a great emphasis on Japanese hand tools. He learned the art of joinery, fine craftsmanship and developed a great respect for the woods. His love prompted him to take great care in the craft, rejoicing in every step and giving thanks for the work he was given.
